Over the years, Wellspring has brought mental health counseling and training to places such as Haiti, Rwanda, and other places in South America; it is our mission to share the gifts and resources we’ve been given with those in need of them. This July 2023, we have the opportunity to take mental health counseling and training to Port Antonio, Jamaica, partnering with PAVE.
There is a real need for mental health education in Port Antonio. While many people in the community suffer from trauma and mental health issues, there is little discussion or action regarding these issues. The community is in need of trauma education; what trauma is, how to recognize it, and how to recover from it. That is where we can help.
PAVE, Portland Arts and Vocational Education Centre, is a place that provides vocational training for the at-risk youth living in the community. PAVE’s mission is to equip the community with self-worth tools, life skills, and education to attain and sustain employment. Providing the necessary tools for students to succeed in the real world, PAVE helps students to feel capable and confident to succeed on their own.
Wellspring plans to partner with PAVE in three phases:
1. Provide mental health education and de-stigmatization
2. Bring healing and mental health training to community leaders
3. Launch community leaders to be trauma-informed specialists
Our next trip to Jamaica will be on July 8th. At this time, we need your help with Phase 1. Your generosity, in any amount, helps bring these life-changing skills to a traumatized community. Be sure to indicate on your memo line “International Missions for Wellspring.”
With your help, we can join PAVE to create a trauma-informed community that currently lacks the mental health resources it needs. Together, we can help the Port Antonio community heal from the inside out.
“You yourselves know that these hands of mine have supplied my own needs and the needs of my companions. In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” – Acts 20:34-35
