RESILIENCE AND LIFE CHANGES

Resilience: Our ability to bounce back when life hits us hard.

Resilience is the capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties. What does resiliency mean in our everyday life and how can counseling help?

ABOUT RESILIENCE AND LIFE CHANGES

Resilient people have a survivor mentality and know how to use good coping skills.

Resilient individuals experience, trauma, challenges, and intense emotions like anyone else. However, rather than being overwhelmed or resorting to unhealthy coping mechanisms, they use healthy skills and support systems to overcome and grow stronger. Resilient people emerge with a survivor mentality, feeling empowered and capable of handling next circumstances well. Resilience is vital for success in an evolving world.

BOUNCING BACK AFTER HARDSHIPS

Life comes with challenges, pain, loss, and disappointment.

What are some things you can do when life throws you a curve ball?

Practice self-awareness: Daily self-observation builds awareness of your thoughts and feelings, which will improve your responses.

Practice self-care: Healthy eating, exercise, screen breaks, rest, journaling, prayer, reading.

Healthy relationships: Surround yourself with healthy relationships and set boundaries in unhealthy ones.

Acceptance: Know what is and is not within your control – your thoughts and actions, not the past or others’ thoughts or actions.

Stay positive: Catch you negative thoughts, challenge them, and replace them with positive, realistic ones.
