Wellspring Counseling’s mission as a non-profit counseling center and outreach ministry is to provide mental health services and education in a professional, Christian and holistic way in order to bring about transforming change.

Wellspring has experienced exponential growth since opening in 2009. This growth has brought many opportunities and challenges. It is fitting at this time for Wellspring to revisit why and how we provide services in our community and to update our strategic business plan to provide for ongoing viability and future growth. We must provide value through our services and be financially sustainable in order to be that center and ministry.

Wellspring Counseling functions as a business, but is driven by mission rather than profit.

• Our core values as an organization are excellence, integrity and unity of mindset and purpose; and we seek to be guided by these in how Wellspring operates.

• Wellspring is a non-profit (501C3) organization. As a nonprofit organization, Wellspring is eligible for tax-deductible donations; we have a governing board; and no one personally profits from any of our endeavors. We keep our overhead costs as low as possible by exchanging services for shared spaces at local churches, sharing administrative spaces, and frugal spending.

• Wellspring is committed to serving the under-resourced. In 2020, Wellspring discounted more than $125,000 in services to our clients.

• Wellspring gives away services to the community. Wellspring raises funds through grants and donations to provide outreach services to traumatized youth through our Bounce! Camp, traumatized populations following disasters, Christian ministry leaders, and to other special populations. We also fund our outreach education program Wellspring on the Air on 90.9 LifeFM and available on podcast.

• Wellspring staff are personally committed to the mission, as the above example illustrates. Wellspring staff commit to be a part of the Wellspring team despite sacrifices in salaries, benefits, and more.

Wellspring Counseling provides needed services to our churches and our community.

• Wellspring therapists help men, women, teenagers, and children in some of the most challenging seasons of their lives. God has equipped Wellspring to help clients find hope when circumstances do not offer hope. Wellspring therapists help their clients tackle anxiety, depression, grief and loss. The people who enter our doors are offered spiritual, emotional and behavioral resources to promote positive transformation in their families, marriages, professions, and other relationships.

• Wellspring’s presence in local churches validates the importance of mental health to the Christian community. Wellspring has seven locations throughout Miami-Dade, hosted in churches of different denominations and a Christian organization. We have many other churches who partner with us for discounted services to provide counseling to their constituency. Wellspring supports the church at large by facilitating emotional health so local Christians will be better enabled to live a joyful and fruitful life in fellowship with God and others.

• Wellspring bridges the gap between the emotional education, lay counseling and pastoral care provided in our churches, and the professional field of counseling, psychiatry and inpatient mental health services. Wellspring is both professionally licensed and skilled in the best of tools in the mental health care field as well as Christian in our approach to counseling and understanding of humans.

• Wellspring is faith-friendly. Wellspring is non-discriminatory, client-centered, and faith-friendly with a holistic approach to wellness. We work within the framework of the client, respecting the client’s spiritual inclinations, if any. For Christian clients, we hope that as a result of reaching their goals, they will be better enabled to love God, love others and live well for the glory of God.

Wellspring Counseling’s success as a community resource depends on its continued success as a business.

• The cost and efforts to provide mental health services by professional, skilled therapists with a Christian worldview is no less than it is for private practitioners or secular agencies. Wellspring provides insurance billing for clients with “out-of-network” coverage and in 2021 some in network insurance panels. Mental health loses money so many providers do not accept in network insurance, which means the average working person with insurance cannot find a provider with scheduling space. People who have insurance that cover mental health need to have service providers. This accessibility is vital to helping individuals, families, and communities.

• We also provide quality control oversight, administrative coordination for all of our services, and advanced training for our therapists.

• Grant solicitation and the pursuit of donor dollars help us provide discounts and give-away services as well as to market our services and education to the community.

• Wellspring is committed to continuing to expand the reach of our services to as many communities as God leads in Florida and beyond. Wellspring leadership further commits to informing our constituents of the needs we are meeting and the funds required to keep our services available.

• Wellspring’s existence must be preserved to serve Miami-Dade County and now the entire state of Florida and beyond. Local pastors and partners have affirmed that if a rate increase is needed to enable Wellspring to continue doing our work in our community, then they would support such an increase. We are committed to keeping our rates as affordable as possible; hence, our annual rate increases are always lower than 5%.
