A Life Long Dream Come True

Sometimes, as we reflect back on our lives, we begin to see how God has sovereignly orchestrated circumstances, how He has guided us towards fulfilling His purposes and arranged how things have come together in our experience. I’d like to briefly share with you how God has allowed one of my dreams to come true…

Since I was a little girl, I always wanted to work with and help people. I have often found myself in situations where people came to me to seek guidance and counsel. After graduating from college, I began a master’s degree in counseling but was unable to complete the program. My life course changed once I got married – it was “A Great Detour”! We moved to Ecuador as missionaries and had 3 children. During this time, I had no opportunity to pursue my dream to become a counselor except to read books on my own.

About 15 years later, we moved to Miami and I heard that a Master’s in Counseling Psychology was opening up here. During the next several years I slowly worked to complete my degree. For me, it turned out to be a “20-year program” before my dream was fulfilled.

I joined what was eventually to become Wellspring Counseling as an intern and so have been with them from the beginning. It has been a joy to see how this organization has grown over the years to serve the needs of our community, but even more to be a part of people’s lives as they have experienced healing and found hope for the future.

We are in an unprecedented time as we continue to wrestle with the impact of a worldwide pandemic as well as ongoing national unrest. Mental health has been negatively affected with increasing loneliness, divorce rates, depression, burnout, anxiety, and stress. According to a KFF Health Tracking Poll, “72% of the people are saying their lives have been disrupted a lot by the coronavirus outbreak.”

It is our desire at Wellspring Counseling to provide mental health services to Floridians from all sectors of our diverse population. This week we are raising money for our scholarship fund which will provide resources for those who are unable to afford the care that they need… With your gift, small or large, you can make a difference in the lives of others by giving them the gift of hope, healing and maybe even setting them on a path for their life-long dreams to come true!
